Another big advantage of a dedicated compact over just using your phone is the Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) on many modern compact cameras such as the Panasonic lumix LX range. I find viewing a phone screen to line up a photo can be tricky in bright Florida sunshine - a decent EVF eliminates this problem

Depends what you're looking for. My Pixel has fantastic photo quality, far better than a point and shoot. Not as good as my full frame DSLR but then I'm not going to lug a DSLR around a theme park.

Depends on budget - A DSLR will get best results, if not the Fuji range are very good.

I actually have both of the TZ60 and G7X Mk2. Would be happy as either with a point and shoot to be honest. Have used both out in FLorida, admittedly mainly for video.
The TZ60 has the longer zoom and a viewfinder, but it is softer at the long end of that zoom. The G7X Mk2 takes better snaps, but it's over twice the price. |

Getting Excited

These are both decent cameras so I'm sure either would suit. I think the decision is more about size. I made the mistake of taking a DSLR on my last trip but far too big. Have now reverted to my trustee compact TZ5 and its more than adequate.

I have a Nikon D3200. I used to use a Nikon Coolpix but I am enjoying having a better quality camera. Last Summer I got a camera backpack which made it easier to access. I kept the camera and additional lens in the bottom of the backpack and was able to use top part for other items like autograph books.

I didn't want to lug my big camera around so bought a Sony HX60 and that's all i've been using since. It's fab!

I have always used my Canon DSLR but i have switched to mirrorless this year.
I've gone for the Olympus OM-D EM10 MK II Great camera, quality is just as good if not better than my DSLR, smaller, lighter but still have the option to swap lenses. |

Just purchased a Sony RX100 mk 5. Wow, what a camera. Better quality shots than my 7D slr and it's tiny. Couple with the backup to smartphone app so I can back my photos to my Google drive easily, I can't wait to try out this camera in the parks.
