Mobile Best way to get video from SD card to DVD or BlueRay using Mac

Hi all,

I need to transfer our Orlando footage from our memory cards to BlueRay ideally but if not, DVD. We only have a Mac, what is the best way to do this please?

Thanks

you need an authoring program.

cant say ive kept up to date, but i think imovie will take the footage and burn a useable DVD... might also do bluray too

the only issue with DVD is the max resolution is 720x480 (not HD), if you wanted to burn 720p or 1080p footage (most likely), you would need to burn to BD. but that would probably involve buying a bluray burner (still relatively rare/expensive in most computers)

i'd say downscale the video to dvd and burn that, and keep the original x264 video footage for use in the future if you ever need it

*edit*
sorry, it was iDVD that was for burning, not iMovie)... toast may be of some use, but thatll cost...

Have you considered uploading to YouTube, or Google Photos. You can make them private, only to you and family.
If your videos aren't in the correct format, you can always convert them with a freeware program called Handbrake (mac and pc).

I hadn't considered that actually but there's hours and hours of footage, would that be a problem? Like 10hrs. Part of the issue is too that my little girl likes to watch them here and at nannas so having them on DVD lets her do that. At the moment we just watch them straight from the camcorder. Thanks for the idea though and the converter program.

You also have to have a Blue Ray player/writer in your computer. Often these are only DVD versions. I would check before you buy anything. I use Movie Studio. It used to owned by Sony but isn't now.

Thanks Peter. I think I'm happy enough with DVD TBH. Do you think I should be able to do it with what is built in?

just another thought...

most modern tvs and dvd players and all blueray players have a usb / memory card slot to watch digital files...

why not just put the files on harddrive/memory sticks and watch them directly on the tv or thru the dvd/blueray player - may have to convert the files to a playable format but that would be an easy way to carry them with you - rather than investing in a DVD/Blueray burner...
