Obviously my dining was technically free but since I paid extra for the room, I decided to crunch some numbers based on how I personally valued each component.

2 bedroom villa at Saratoga Springs onsite: $200/night x 14 nights = $2800
It never gets this cheap but that is the max I would personally have been willing to pay (would pay a little more for offsite for free transportation, etc) so that's how I valued it. It was actually about $500/night.

14 day tickets: approx $400 x 8ppl = $3200
That's under $30/day to be entertained from morning to night...not bad in my opinion

Meals, all onsite: $4500 + $800 tips (free regular DDP) = $5300. So $378/day for 8 people or $47/pp.

Yours was $34/pp.

If I had chosen your meals and used similar discounts that you did, I would have saved $13/pp/day or saved $1456 over 2 weeks. Pretty interesting comparing numbers like that. We did waste some food (because we felt overwhelmed with credits by the middle of the trip) and brought home 20-25 snacks. Also overate in quite a few places.

Thanks again for sharing your details OP! Those will be helpful for planning future trips.
Wow you've certainly done your homework
I can see why people opt for staying onsite with the free dining offer it's very good value. For us it's more about the space we get by staying in a villa. With 2 teenagers we can't spend more than 1 night in a hotel room before we want to strangle each other

Was the Amount you paid only for food? Or was that’s souvenirs as well?

We are 2AD and 1CH (still on kids menus) so hoping that our budget of $150 a day will work

Hi there, yes it was just food but we did go for 3 weeks so would be more than the average 14 day holiday. Are you mainly eating offsite? Your budget of $150 a day for just the 3 of you will be more than enough. I’m not sure about you but the heat really does something to our appetites and there is no way we can eat 3 meals a day. The portions are so large you can easily share too. Sign up to the e-clubs of any restaurants you fancy a few days before you go. It may just be a free starter or 10% off the bill but every little helps as they say 😃

I did a similar breakdown of this years stay although like to keep mine in £s:

1 night off site 2 bed apartment £88
evening meal (probably macdonalds for the kids and popeyes for us adults) estimate approx $40 = $8pp
breakfast = box of cereal & pack of bake your own cinnamon rolls approx $8 = $2pp
1 day car hire pick up from airport drop off following day at Hilton, should have cost £35 but got 'free' using avios points

On site for 13 nights in one room for 2 adults & 3 children ages 9, 12 & 14 at POR with free qsdp £4445.

£1965 tickets
£2470 13 nights hotel & free qsdp = £190 a night
realistically the room is worth around £90 a night to us (hotel rooms in the area for 5 are around this, we got a really good deal for the above apartment)
As we only have qsdp no tips are required food cost £20pp a day.

I know many would hate to have 5 in a room but last year we only went back to the room to sleep so worked fine for us. We plan to go back in 2021 and whilst hubby likes the free dining plan and whole Disney bubble experience if we enjoy the apartment he may be swayed to stay off site for the extra space.

Hey, we are there for three weeks, the last time we went we had friendlys for breakfast every morning, then snacks during the day, ice cream and the likes, then a proper meal at night. You are right about the not eating much. Favourites include: Mannys, Bahama Breeze, Carabbas, Brick House. I just can't remember how much we spent the last time. A lot happened when we got home (My mother passed away suddenly), then we were planning our wedding. Before I knew it, it was time to start planning for our promised DD 2019 trip, before she starts secondary school in the September.

We will mostly be offsite, we plan to do Crystal Palace on our first night in MK, so we can also watch the fireworks from their terrace.

Our biggest change this year is a villa, instead of a hotel, so I am guessing we will have snacks there.

I am working out for us three, but we will also have my wife's mother, her auntie and uncle also with us.

Thank you Smithlane for this very helpful post.

We intend to eat at a lot of the same places as you and will also be spending a few days at AMI.

This will be a great help to me working out a budget
