New England Summer 2018: Day 10 - Vermont To Acadia, Maine
So today was moving on day - off to Acadia National Park in Maine. We had done most of the packing last night but still needed to put the last bits in. I was awake early - about 5am. The rest of the family were awake by 7! Today was also O's 17th birthday. No present as such from us to unwrap as he is off to Berlin for a festival. After we had eaten breakfast, we loaded the car up and we went down to say goodbye to the horses. F was very sad to be leaving Sundance - a horse she hadn't ridden but whom she had built up an infinity with. We left about 8.30am. I drove - it was very much local roads that you couldn't often go very fast on. We passed a lot of trees and graveyards! The scenery around Mount Washington was stunning. After about 4 hours I had had enough of driving. We were hoping to find somewhere to stop to eat but got as far as Wayne In Maine with few options. We decided to swap over. J certainly did more mikes but on highways rather than rural roads! As we approached Augusta, food options looked more hopeful. We saw a sign for Denny's, Olive Garden and Panera and decided to go for it. We came to Olive Garden first do that is where we went. J and I started with the salad. The kids had the minestrone soup but the star of the starters was the garlic bread! O had make your own pasta with tomato sauce snd garden veggies. J had mushroom ravioli. F and I both gad the lunch size pasta Alfredo which we both enjoyed. We had water to drink. It came to $45.85 which we thought was reasonable. We continued on our way. As we got nearer to Acadia the traffic got heavier. O wanted ice cream as his birthday treat. We came across this just before Trenton so we stopped. I had a sundae withnpeanut butter and Smores ice cream and fudge sauce. F had similar though she had peanut butter sauce. O had a brownie sundae which J helped him out with. Cost was $20.95. We arrived at our Airbnb in Northwest Harbor. Photos to come tomorrow. It is lovely. After unpacking, J and I walked to the harbour. We also went to the local supermarket - it will be our first and last visit as it was very very expensive! We just got enough for dinner and breakfast! Captain Denny, the owner, came across and showed us all the places to visit! O and Zi walked down to the harbour again. We are all tired - but looking forward to exploring tomortow!
