Edinburgh Ideas?
Hi we are off to Edinburgh over Easter weekends, 2 adults and 11 year old boy. Apart from castle/Mary kings close/camera obscura do you recommend any other places to visit? Also and nice places to eat? (English/burger/chicken) thanks 👍

Edinburgh Zoo is a nice day out.
I would recommend a restaurant called Bubba Q which is near the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, its a smokehouse bbq place, its not fancy but the food is lovely! |

Climb up Arthur Seat for great views, Calton Hill, loads of museums including Museum of Scotland, Writers Museum (Burns, Walter Scott etc.), Children's Museum, People's Museum and more and are all free. The Surgeons Museum is really interesting if you don't mind gory things.
If weather is good the Botanic Gardens are well worth a visit and there is Inverleith Park right beside it for your son. Royal Yacht Britannia and Holyrood Palace if you are into Royalty. There are cafes, restaurants etc. everywhere. English food is widely available in Scotland I notice Edinburgh Zoo has been mentioned. If you want to go there to see the pandas you have to book early to see them as the time slots get filled quickly. Edited at 02:31 PM. |

The Edinburgh Science Festival runs from 31st March-15th April. We were in Edinburgh for Easter a few years ago and we booked various actives for ds and dd. Ranging from Lego robots, a dinosaur dig, pretending to be a surgeon! Here's the link for this year's activities. sciencefestival/whats-on

We really love walking over Arthur's Seat and down in to the village of Duddingston to the Sheep Heid Inn for lunch (you need to book), it's quite a long walk but lovely views and at least you are walking with a purpose! You can either get a bus back to Central Edinburgh or a taxi.

There are also Harry Potter tours. Although if you do a it of research you can find a lot of venues yourself.

Dynamic Earth is good, you could take a look at the parliament while you’re down there although I wouldn’t make the trip for that!

The Dungeons are good fun as are the evening ghost tours around the royal mile. There is also the National Museum of Scotland if the weather isn’t great which is 5 mins from the Royal Mile. The Commonwealth Pool has a water assault course in the Easter Holidays which is easy to get to and there is Trampolining, Bowling, Cinema etc if the weather isn’t great if your son is into any of that. Gusto is good to eat ( in George Street) your son can make his own Pizza. The Dome is nice if you and your Husband enjoy a Cocktail or too. There is also Five Guys which seems to be a Popular Choice on the Dibb. Smoke Stack too is a nice restaurant.
