We mix it up, I normally have about $1000 on the Revolut card about $1000 dollars in cash (plus $10 a day each for the kids for pocket money) and then have a post office credit card for any other spends, this time we have Disney dining plan so are not expecting to spend anywhere near as much as in the past

I would take a few hundred in cash and split the rest between Revolut and FairFx cards. I would also take UK debit/ credit card as back up.

Last august we took $1000 in cash, had a FairFX card and we took debit cards and just topped up the FairFX from our bank accounts as we went along and drew out more cash as needed
half of the $1000 was used at first hotel I check in as they wanted $50 a night hold so instead of using a card I paid cash as I know it can take a few days to go back on the card. |

Hi OP - any reason you want to take cash? If you can get a CC - they are so much easier. We never use cash now. $100 does around 3 trips.

We've used prepaid card's in the past (Tesco / Asda's variant which I think was Travelex, not sure if they still are) and didn't have any problems at all, accepted everywhere and always worked.
Two years ago we used Revolut which we found hit and miss (but I suppose it was early day's for the company), there was a few times we found ourselves not able to use the cards at all, which was embarrassing when it kept getting rejected (wouldn't work in anywhere in Disney and several shops, support was useless)... However It's a nice way of safety storing your money until you need to withdraw it from a cash machine and very easy to transfer to / from. This year I think we are going to take a bit of "beer money" in cash / transfer odd bits to Revolut for withdrawal but mostly use credit cards, there's a few out there which give the top rates available. |
