Planning Bahrain trip

So I am getting ready to book a short break to Bahrain, going to see my son, who will be working there, mid April, (after easter hols and F1 have finished) am going to be travelling with his girlfriend Bethany-Rose.

So far are looking at Gulf Air flights there and back, (anyone used them before feedback would be great) have booked Premier Inn at Heathrow T4, and for Bahrain, six nights at the Intercontinental Regency in a club level room, to allow for some drinks and food as I believe its pricey. We were delighted to discover we are near to Avenues Mall, which has Cheesecake Factory, Bath and Body Works, Sephora, and IHOP! Fantastic news, in fact we will admit we were slightly more excited by the thought of visiting the mall than my son George, oops!

Am little nervous about being in middle eastern culture for first time, especially as I love wine and hugging but am assured I will be ok. I will do a mini trip report.

I have stayed twice in that hotel, and can only say it's fantastic, and we were not in club level room. I was there on work trips.

The Legendz steak house had specials if I recall on a Tuesday night, don't know if it's still the same and you could negotiate a good deal - was certainly the best steak I've ever had in my life.

I am glad your son works there, so he will keep you right about Bahrain. When we were there, every car going to the hotel was searched wiht mirror etc underneath, and it can be quite offputting for first time visitors.
One trip, we also had full airport security scanners going into hotel but I never felt unsafe, although Bahrain is not the world's happiest place. There is however very firm security everywhere.

We only stayed in the hotel and went back and forth to work in a taxi. The bar downstairs had a good group playing every night, and it really only got very busy at weekends when a lot of Saudis came across to drink.

Thanks Georgemac! Great to hear from someone who has been, my son is working for BFBS and will be at the base, we just want somewhere we feel welcome and comfortable, and I think this will be it.
Have already eyed up the steakhouse! Sounds good. Have a feeling we will be surprised at how much we enjoy it despite feeling a bit nervous. Thanks for your reply.

Anyone flown Gulf Air? Just wondering how they compare to BA? BA have flights direct too, but not such good flight times.

I booked today! We are flying BA, (staying at Sofitel T5 night before) then six nights at the Intercontinental Regency Bahrain, club level. Now I just need to get my body ready for hot weather!
