If they're not staying on-site with you, then they won't have magic bands that are linked to the room reservation though.

First I have heard of it as well.
Edit. Just seen Vickies post. Nail on head and I think she is right.

But the system knows which bands are assigned to the onsite guests and which are not, your onsite booking lists the names of the guests and their bands are assigned as onsite. Anyone not listed as checked in onsite even if they have a band, it will not allow parking free when scanned at the kiosks, and will not activate the barriers at any of the resorts. I know this as I was in a queue in September and someone tried to do as you suggest and their band indicated they were not onsite guests and they had to pay

Don't want to say anyone is right or wrong and I know a lot of people on here are much more clued up than me but when we stayed late October last year we were given a paper pass and that's what we used so maybe you'll get one and your off site friends can use it, I'm sure Walt can afford it

No they wont be able to park for free as they will not have a hotel reservation linked to their Magic Bands.

I get what you're saying with it not being possible with the resort stay not being linked to their magicbands, but the resort stay is linked as I can freely book fastpasses for them using their ticket/magicbands on my account, using my resort booking.

I think you are missing the point. This WDW Policy sums it up.
If you are a Guest of a Disney Resort hotel, you receive complimentary standard parking at Disney theme parks for the length of your Resort stay. You must present valid Disney Resort hotel identification to enter the parking lots.

Thinking on, the system is probably clever enough to allow all our party, including those off site, to experience rides together by granting everyone fast passes and dinning at the same, yet be able to identify DH and I as onsite guests for other privileges such as extra magic hours and parking.

And also entry to your room, charging to your room, using dining plan credits etc.
