Mobile Crete July 21

Yesterday I booked 10 days in Crete for July 21☺️ Never done an all inc before but it was a really good deal and was worth the risk! Will be flying into Chania & staying not far from the old Venetian harbour! I’ve been to Zante, Santorini and Corfu and loved all of them, but was pre kids (they will be 15 & 13) and dh has been a few times when he was in the Royal Navy and enjoyed it.

Does anyone have any recommendations of places to see? We will prob hire a car for a few days in the middle too. Excited to have something to look forward to!

I love the western end of Crete, beautiful.

Samaria gorge is a great day out but need to be moderately fit. Suggest doing it as a tour is a more practical approach rather than doing it by car as your car will end up in the wrong place.

Elefonisi is a nice day trip. Pink and yellow sand. Much nicer than the northern shores.

I have an interest in military history so I found the German cemetery near malame interesting.

Knossos of course. Also tylissos ruins. More explore on your own if looking for a bit of Minoan culture.

Melidoni cave. Has a tragic history but is much quieter than visiting Zeus cave.

Drive through Therosio gorge to Therosio village. Or if don't want gorge overdo then topolia is a good one on the way to elefonisi. It has parking so you can stopp off and look. It's hot though 😁

I love the beauty and simplicity of Balos / gramvousia. The colours of the sea and scenery are stunning. Cannot drive there by car (rental companies won't cover you) best to get a boat there from Kissamos. (If your boat stops at imeri gramvousia the ruins are worth a visit). Is you haven't had enough beach at Balos then Falassarna is good. But can be busy.

Plenty of time to plan your days out.

We will be in eastern Crete next year, but will still drive. Up to a couple of these areas. Esp Georgiopolis / Samaria.
Enjoy.

Wow! Thankyou so much for all of this!

My 14 year old (will be 15 when we go) absolutely loves Greek mythology and Greek architecture, so is so happy to be going, she's been googling ruins already bless her.

The beach at Elafonisi looks stunning so that is going on the list of day trips!

Having been to 3 x Greek islands before, I have not really seen much history (mainy saw the inside of nightclubs and bars if i'm honest haha) so am really looking forward to seeing some culture and if I remember rightly, the locals were always very friendly! We cant wait!
