The locals have been vociferous for the last couple of months that the islands were unlikely to be accepting ‘everyone’ until September, and there seems to be a lot of concern that the usual things that tourists travel for may be unable to operate for a lot longer time (luaus, whale watching etc) if social distancing is still a thing.

I have no personal knowledge but a lot of them seem very worried that many bars / restaurants will be able to survive and that it could take a while for Hawaii to recover.

I hope it does, reasonably quickly, it is a very special place.

I can understand that .
I have pretty much written that part off now ,sadly .
Hopefully we’ll be able to go another time .
We were only going to stay at Aulani for a few days and only had 2 day trips booked as we were meeting family there .
At least if I rebook we will stay longer

Update: only if the resort is closed or there is a travel ban for us, we will be able to get a voucher to rebook from 30 days before the reservation date.

Oh really is this what they said? I’m in this too for the same amount
Just spoken to Hawaii airlines who were incredibly helpful!

Should add we luckily paid for cancellation cover on our flights with American Airlines so got most of our money back apart from 20% .
Could’ve been worse as other wise we would have lost all of it!

Can I ask - was your American Airlines booking from the uk? (We were due to fly to Seattle on 31st July and back from Texas on 18th August with BA, which has been cancelled), but I was flying Delta to Honolulu and American from Honolulu to Dallas, but as those flights aren’t until August, I was assuming I had to wait to see if Hawaii increases quarantine for August. Obviously I’m not going regardless as I won’t be even in the US to take the flights, but I’d ideally like a refund rather than a voucher, but not sure I’ll have much hope if the quarantine gets lifted for August?
