I go to Florida in October and a friend at work was flying the same day so we�ve been comparing notes etc.

Her plan was a big family holiday, 3 generations but it�s all been put on hold as her 6 year old grandson has been diagnosed with cancer and has started chemotherapy.

Hopefully they will go in 2020 so I have suggested that I send her grandchildren pixie dust postcards & will bring them park maps back. (Any other ideas welcome)

I wondered about taking a sign �get well soon� �see you in 2020� kind of thing and taking a photo of characters holding the signs. But I have never seen anything similar so wasn�t sure if it was allowed, anyone got any idea?

I would be surprised if it was allowed as they would be scared about getting pictures with signs which they thought were for good will but actually different motives. That's a complete guess though.

I believe they are not allowed to hold signs as they can't see what the signs say and as good intentions as most have, there will always be the occasion where someone abuses it.

I have seen people with slogans on their t-shirts though to get around this.

You can post items in magic Kingdom so when sending the postcards make sure you post them from there.

what you could try is to make a binder, or large sheets of paper or cardboard, and have the characters sign them
and take pictures of the character signing.
then bind all together in an album. with the picture of the character signing next to the signature

you could also have the picture of the child, and ask the character to hold it while you shoot the photo.

you could have a T-shirt with the picture of the child, and above the picture a caption that reads "the get well child_name tour" , for when you do the character runs.

I would also write an email to guest services before the trip asking about current policies regarding the situation. You might be able to be more specific with them than you would on an open and public forum.

regarding signs, I don't know. I would just reply to the previous poster about the character not seing what's written on a sign. There will always be a cast member escorting a character. They're sort of "character police", and make sure the character is not abused and that lines be respected. So they would make sure nothing offensive is done.
The main issue I see for OP is explaining each character escort what they are trying to do. That could become old quite fast, and that would need doing in front of a fair number of perfect strangers.

I doubt a sign would be allowed as the photo could potentially be photoshopped with something offensive put on the sign pretty easily which wouldn�t do Disney any good.

My friend went to DLP and got the characters to hold up signs directed at me without any questions or problems. Not sure if the rules are different in WDW. Maybe email them and ask?

They are willing to record video messages. Eg a teacher getting characters to record good luck messages on a phone like a vlog or as if a selfie for their students.

I know someone who got buttons at Guest Services with messages written on them and got pics holding the buttons up in front of landmarks and characters holding them

Thank you for all your ideas. I don�t know the child personally so don�t want to be in any shots as such hence asking about the characters.

Will contact Disney for a definitive answer.

Any other suggestions welcome

Video messages are great, we got a brilliant one from Merida to my niece. So you can ask if they will say see you soon or get well soon to him. You could even compile a few clips together into one video when you get home which im sure would be a lovely thing.
