Ok, I'm trying to figure out how to phrase this so it makes sense... .

We want to buy points now in BC. Am I right in thinking that if we do that we can book to stay at BC 11 months out, but if we want to stay anywhere else, it's 7 months out?

DH is getting a bit over excited about it all now, and is talking about gradually adding more points each time we go  . . If we bought points in a different resort, so we then had say 150 points in BC and 50 in WL, how does that affect how soon you can book. Could you book to use all the points at one of those resorts 11 months out?

You can only use the points for any particular resort to get the 11 month booking window at that resort.

So, suppose you have 150 points at BCV and add on another 50 at VWL.  If you want to book a trip needing 200 points in BCV you'd have to wait for the 7 month window, or book part of the trip at 11 months using the 150 points available then and add on the rest of the trip at 7 months.

Thanks Hil, I thought that might be the case. Presumably you could book at 11 months out and resort hop using your points accordingly then?

Yes .

Or book at both resorts at 11 months, then switch to all in the same one (if available) once you hit 7 months.

That's another bit of DVC I find hard to grasp, actually - the wasted man-hours with all the booking and then cancelling and re-booking that goes on because of the 11 / 7 month windows.  The system obviously works, but I imagine at least half of all bookings made at 11 months are subsequently switched once the 7 month window opens.

Got it, thanks. What would I do without DVC veterans to call upon for info  .

Crikey - veteran?  I only joined last year, and I'm definitely still learning!

I do remember seeing all the advice on the US boards saying buy where you intend to stay most.  As Disney were only selling VWL at that time, and I didn't fancy trying the resale route even though we planned to stay in OKW most often (because of the 'unknown' factor of trying to tie together something like that from the UK), I chose to go against that advice.  I suppose it's my own fault if I now have any trouble getting what I want at 7 months!

I would certainly consider a resale now if I were adding on, but I did like the comfort of knowing that I was dealing with a major US company like Disney for the legalities.

Luckily the BC is available to buy, as we'd want to stay there mostly. I just can't get over the fact that we'll be able to stay in a deluxe resort within walking distance of ToT and the Food and Wine festival.  .
