Plans for a non park trip
We are lucky enough to be going again next year, having visited every year since 2012 bar one.
Next year we have decided to do a non park trip, we have done them all extensively and would like to see a different side of Florida. We have done St Pete's Beach and Miami in the past, we are flying into Orlando on August 8th for 16 nights. I am looking for your suggestions on where to go and things to do. We will have a car and are happy to travel, there will be me, DH and two boys 17 and 13. Thinking of doing a few nights at Anna Marie Island, and we do want to spend some time in Orland. Looking forward to your replies - thanks

Kennedy Space Center if you haven’t done it - I went for the first time this year and loved it!
Afternoon walking around Celebration is always pleasant!

If you are up for a long journey, then Pensacola beach is really nice with the Margaritaville hotel. The Naval aviation museum is world class.
USS Alabama at Mobile is an hour further. Rainbow river Kayak ride looks good and we are doing it next year. Casperson beach with its fossilised sharks teeth found by sieving the sand. (Near Venice). Boggy creek airboat ride with an awesome Native American Indian. Daytona Beach is nice with all the speedway and beach racing history. Titusville has the Valiant Air Command museum. A non park vacation is something we have considered.. but the lure of Discovery Cove is always too strong! Edited at 09:21 PM. |

I've not actually been so I can't recommend it on a personal basis but I really like the look of St Augustine and hope to fit it in on a future trip at some point.

If you've got 16 days and no park ticket to get the use out of I would go down to the keys and see some old world Florida
In fact we often do this if we have 4 days free - so you have plenty of time |

Some Dibbers might think we're a bit odd as we haven't been to any parks since 2010 (apart from a random MVMCP in 2014) so this upcoming trip will be at least a dozen without providing the Disney Corporation more $$$$.
Our travels have taken us as far north as St Augustine for a day trip and as far south as Key West. If you want to travel south west for a few days and your family is remotely interested in American industrial history and innovation then the Edison/Ford museum in Fort Myers is well worth a visit. edisonfordwinterestates/ Mick

Excited about Disney
|
We are so looking forward to our Florida trip next May. We are flying into FLL and will travel up to West Palm beach then back down to Miami and the the Keys then up the coast all the way to Clearwater. We are there for 21 days and plan no Disney parks. Will visit a lot of beaches and parks such as Theatre of the Seas. Search on Youtube for areas and other Guy's blogs. Disney can now keep there $25 parking fee, they are now way too Greedy!
