Virgin would add a flight to cover if Thomas Cook unfortunately went under,I think they will buy the airline first though!

We didnt have a problem when Xl went bust 4 days before our holiday,Virgin released more seats and we rebooked within 5 hours!not saying that would happen this time, but Virgin would definitely cash in!

What I have found most interesting - and hopefully a lesson for others watching this thread - is how many people don’t get adequate insurance when booking their holidays.

That's all well if you have enough funds to rebook at such short notice. Most people wont.
We too lost out back in 2008 when XL/TCD went under with less than 12 hours before our scheduled departure. Took 2 1/2 months to reclaim all the monies for our total party of 6, by then we lost our villa rental, car hire and people couldn't get more time off work. Perhaps might be different now. Hopefully more people will have flight only and accommodation arrangements booked separately, otherwise it could be a nightmare to rearrange so suddenly. Unless, as you say, any new company does indeed honor 100% of existing arrangements.

Didn't have the funds we always keep a 0% credit card for emergencies, we used that and cleared it when we got our money back through section 75 with Egg! It took 6 months as they fought it tooth and nail, but we threatened them with the financial ombudsmen and they them paid out!

Wow so much judgment in one thread in every direction. Let’s not try to pull apart own individual circumstances/decisions. Yes they are in trouble as are some other travel/airline companies but no one knows the eventual fate yet. But we are all entitled to make decisions we feel most comfortable with. Let’s all try to be abit kind and supportive whichever decisions people are making.

Yes but I can't get insurance with end supplier failure as my holiday is 15 months away, so need to get it at the earliest possibility ( within a yr)

Just signed up after raising a similar topic on another site. We fly in 4 weeks today and are a little nervous.

Watching with interest.
