The only surprising thing for me is that he was actually working on a Friday

Its his personal choice.

Its 2020, the 'so what' of this story is zero to me.

Good luck to him, and his family.

... and yes...Well Done Phil.

It must have been hard for him to carry on. Lots of people stay in a marriage that isn’t right for them for whatever reason for the sake of the kids, or because it’s easier, or because they still love the other person just not that way anymore. I can understand why he probably thought it best to carry on rather than putting the fallout on his family. I’m glad they all seem to be supportive and hope (though doubt) the media and others will respect his wife and kids and give them all time to come to terms with the publicity of this.

It is his choice ... I just feel as the “leader” at this morning and the programme such an advocate of the cause it seems a really overdue announcement . In an industry where being gay doesn’t even raise an eyebrow it seems a long time to have held onto it. He and his family are in for a rough few weeks and I do hope it was because he felt ready and not that a tabloid was going to “out” him though.
I don’t think it will damage his career because he’s gay (as you say massive “so what” factor) but I do think that “honest and trustworthy” image will be affected as he kept the secret so well for so long. If you’d been asked earlier today which celebrity was going to announce he is gay today , very few would have guessed it was Phil !

I agree.
Don't forget Gordon the Gopher either.
I also understand he is now undergoing therapy. (For those of a certain age)

He deserves a chance of happiness as much as the next person, I do feel incredibly sorry for his wife however.

Why this thread is in TV and film and one in Chat has been closed is beyond me ! It’s a social announcement and at the start of LGBT history month it deserves recognition and not “tucked away”! - disappointed MF

I didn't say there was a massive 'so what' factor...re-read it...I said its zero!

Its his business of the 'timing' of this revelation! No-one elses!

Do you have any friends or relatives who can give us an inside line on this matter?

I thought they could have 'merged' the two threads.
