What card please

I’m so confused as I usually use a FairfX card and people say they put holds on, I don’t want to use a credit card. I want to put a card on my Magic Band to be able to pre order quick service meals, I just have no idea what to do. My bank is Santander and they will charge. What do you use and why.

If you mean by what card do you give the details of at check in at the Disney resort, we always use a credit card - normally the Halifax clarity as it doesn’t have the usual overseas fees and we have a high enough limit on it to cope with any delay in Disney returning a hold amount. That’s primarily why I’d never use a debit card - that hold amount and the potential length of time to have it returned to my account; while that’s happening, I’m unable to spend it.

However you can attach a debit card to your MDE account for counter service meals that won’t have a hold taken on it - this is different to using your magic band for charging things back to your room. Money spent like this just comes off like normal transactions.

As said you can attach multiple cards to My Disney Experience and choose which one you pay with. Mobile ordering is separate to room charging so if you still wanted to use Fairfx you could.

A credit card is ideal for the ‘hold’ situation as this is not preventing you from spending your money. I understand some people don’t want a credit card but unfortunately without one, there is no viable alternative because if a ‘hold’ is taken using a debit or travel card loaded with currency, your own holiday money will be held.

I have to agree. Not so much of an issue if you don’t charge anything to the room - you should in theory only have $100 held. We had a car so my credit card statement was a bit of a mess for a few days with charges and refunds before it all settled out. I wouldn’t have wanted that on my current account or pre-paid card however with no charges I would just make sure there was an extra $100 on the card or in the account.

No. If you want to charge to your room there will be holds. Charging to your room and mobile order are two separate things. Anyone can mobile order whether staying on-site or not and therefore you link a card on My Disney Experience to use for that. Anything else using your magic band is charged to the room and that’s where the holds come in.

Thanks so much for your help. I will use my FairfX card for mobile order and link it to MDE, I was just getting mixed up and just didn’t want any holds on that card.

Sorry, forgot to say, many of the shops now have mobile checkout. That works similar to mobile order at quick service where you use the cards linked to MDE rather than charge to your room. You can also use Apple/Android Pay if you have it.

Marring Lewis did a piece on best card on his show this week. The best ones where the new chase one, Halifax clarity and a Barclays one but not sure on the type. They all give the best exchange with near 100% to the banking rates. I’ve just got back but I’m contemplating moving from Monzo to chase before next time.
