We arrived slightly after this in April. We were directed straight into the park specifically to sign-up for Jedi training (everyone else was held back outside at this time). We only had to wait a few minutes to sign-up but found that out first choice of slot was already full by about 8.30am, although we did get our second choice.
Sorry but just to clarify - did the CM's allow the line for Jedi Training into the park early then?

Yes - we were able to go to sign-up before everyone else was allowed in. But we were then held back in different areas, depending on where you wanted to head at park opening. After a while they let everyone else in as well, and we were all held back together pending the official opening time, so inside the park gates but not as far in as any actual rides or queues. I think if you were very organised you would have been able to sign-up for Jedi training then get into prime position to speedwalk to TSM or RnR. No idea if they always do it this way or just at certain times of year.

Wow, you were lucky then - good to know! Let's hope our experience is as good in August!

Is this mad rush to sign up a relatively new thing? The last two times we've been (Feb '13 and May '15) we easily got a slot. We didn't even get into the park until about 11am one of the times. Are the rushes in peak season (which we weren't) or all year round?

I emailed Disney to ask if they allow people in to book/queue for Jedi Training before rope drop and this is their reply:

"Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World® Resort. We are excited to hear that you all are planning to visit with us!

The Jedi Training is a wonderful event at Disney's Hollywood Studios®. You will be able to sign up for the event upon the opening - rope drop- of the Theme Park. The rope drop signifies the opening of the Theme Park and Guests are not admitted in prior unless there are scheduled morning Extra Magic Hours."

So will keep my reservation for Hollywood & Vine but just turn up early on the off chance they allow people in early.

DS did this during our trip this year (early March) - park was opening at 9, we were in the queue at about 8:15 when we saw a special queue for Jedi Academi, which got us in early. We were directed round to the Adventure Outpost, where we queued for 15-20 minutes, then got to choose our time to return (which is 30 minutes before the show itself). We were all done and had time for a restroom break before the park officially opened.

Definitely worth doing, but one watch-out though - it was very hot sitting in the sun whilst waiting at the meet up point - so lots of sun cream beforehand and water are a must!

Got there at 9:30 today and ran straight to sign up. Got on the 5:40pm, thought great. About 4:30 it started raining so it got cancelled. Lad gutted. Said you can wait for no shows which we did but next three all got canceled too.

Why don't they just put a roof or even a retractable roof over the stage to prevent this happening?

Adventure Outpost - near to 50's prime time diner. So basically take the first left when you've entered the park.
