I think it's actually harder to write down the procedure than it is in reality to do,so please be reassured of that!

And yes, your question made sense! - Yes, you can ask MS to use your borrowed points first, and then you'd be free to bank those current year points that you no longer need. So I guess, the only risk would come if you weren't planning to go on holiday the following year, and therefore you would of 'wasted' points by banking this year's instead of using them, if you see what I mean!
