Kuala Lumpar 2016 LIVE - All By Myself: Day 6 - Towers And Brickfields

My neighbours woke me up at 2am (whoops did I accidentally let my door slam when I left this morning )but I managed to get back to sleep and slept until 8.25am.

I decided I would walk down to the Petronas Towers to get a ticket - all the books said that unless you went early, it could be difficult to get one on the day.

I passed an Irish restaurant so decided to have a more substantial breakfast. Not bad for 11RM - 3 euros!

I got there at about 10.50am and was told I could go up at 11.15. This would save me coming back.

Petronas Towers were the tallest buildings when finished in 1988 and still remain the tallest twin towers.

It cost 85RM - about 21 euros. I wasn't really happy that I had to leave my rucksack in the (manned) cloakroom. I don't like leaving anything in the hands of others and signage was poor that you had to do this.

First stop was the bridge linking the two towers on the 41st floor.

It still seemed a long way down!

We were taken up to the 86th floor. You can see how the skyscrapers mingle with the ordinary low level houses. Just beyond the skyscraper in the middle you can make out a cemetery.

I think this is probably my favourite photo - one of the towers and the KL Tower which looks tiny in this photo but down on the ground it looks a similar height (but it us deceptive as it is on a hill! )

After 20 minutes we were escorted back down - through the gift shop of course

My view is that it was all a bit sterile. You were herded through the levels. Also, as the Towers dominate the skyline, being in them meant you couldn't have them in your photos - bit like going up the ESB or TOTR in NY - many prefer the latter because you can see the iconic ESB!

The Towers sit on a large mall. I took the opportunity to have a coffee and relax - after all this was meant to be an easier day on my legs!

I then caught the Light Rail Train down to KL Sentral - it took about 15 minutes.

My objective here was to explore Brickfields - the Indian neighbourhood.

It was certainly an assault on my senses - lots of smells of food, music (Bollywood - what else? ) and colours.

I liked these flower garlands.

I passed a Chinese temple on the way back to KL Sentral. Nobody else was in there so I didn't like to go in nosying.

Now came my first food fail. No - not the avocado sandwich (that was nice) but my first attempt. Being veggie is not always easy - especially when a menu isn't in English. What came looked awful, tasted awful so I abandoned it - thankfully it was only 13RM (about 3.50 euros)

So I had an avocado sandwich with a mango and pineapple juice.

It was getting towards 5pm so I headed back for a rest. The monorail is a clean and efficient was to get back to the hotel.

After an hour's rest, I headed back out via Low Yap Plaza. This is a 7 floor IT mall. DH and DS would have loved it. Me not so much

It was now dark. I headed to a different mall where I had seen some t-shirts for the kids. Like many cities, KL at night is full of bright lights.

There was a queue outside H&M - there seems to be a new line on sale tomorrow (Kenzo? ) I guess a lot of it will be on eBay tomorrow

I had a safe dinner - veggie pizza and garlic bread. It cost 16RM - 4 euros. Nothing special but filled me up.

I wandered around a little more before heading back to the hotel.

This was meant to be an easier day on my legs. Somehow I managed 26,900 steps (19km). No wondered I am tired again!

The door would have slipped out of my control, too.

The pizza's making me hungry - and I won't ask what you had before the avocado sandwich!

Shame you found the tower experience a bit sterile, I always think they need to remember the individual experience and not just efficient management for the staff.

Lots more places and lots more steps today. You'll need another holiday to recover.

A whole lot of walking again Mel, but the photos from the top of the towers are worth it. Shame about your first attempt at lunch! The Indian area looks beautiful. I'm so loving your report.

Thanks! I am really enjoying KL. Certainly is different to our usual Canadian trips!

Hahaha, of COURSE you went out via the gift shop!

Some fabulous photos from up there, see for miles, literally.

The India area does look fascinating, would like to wander around there.
