Geoff. Glad I kept this report to read at my leisure. Well what a stunning restoration of a building. And to think it was destined for demolition!
So sad how many icons like this didn't actually survive. Absolutely awesome hotel and your room was lovely. Unusual that the fireplaces weren't stolen in it's latter years. I have to say the meal looked delicious. I would have eaten everything you both picked (not at once I don't mean!) . Lovely.  An excellent start to your trip and Birthday. Looking forward to Part 2.

She's just beautifully stunning isn't she? The hotel i mean.We had once had a drink in the Booking Hall bar and I was determined that one day I would stay there. Ambition has now been fulfilled. I may have to fill it again sometime.
