Question for knowledgable gardeners

Have just spotted one of the small trees in my garden has a couple of branches with lots of black things on them. Nothing appears to be moving, but that doesn’t mean they won’t in time!

Can you tell I have very little gardening knowledge? 😂

Whatever it is seems to be shrivelling up the leaves a bit.

Does anyone know what they are and how I might get rid of them?

My delphiniums were covered in aphids! I tried spraying with washing up liquid but that didn’t seem to work
I waited and I’ve had some bigger insects arrive and they’ve eaten them all 😃

I don't like using bug spray if I can help it. I would get a whole washing up bowl full of v hot and v soapy water and give the whole bush a good soaking. Repeat if necessary

Thanks both. I’ll try the bug spray and hope it does the trick. Failing that, will try to encourage bigger bugs to the tree. 😉

That’s worth a try too then. Thank you.

I did see a ladybird on it yesterday, so wasn’t sure at first if they were all ladybird eggs.

Have just been reading that ladybirds are my friends in helping to get rid of the aphids.

They are black fly, I usually cut the branches off then give the plant a good soak with the hosepipe.

Thank you. Just been out and given it a soaking with the hose.

Once I get rid of them, is there anything I can do in the future to stop them coming back?
