21 days ticket ?

We bought 21 day tickets from Atd. for 7 of us ... now they want another £449 each for another seven days each .. am I right to be fuming ? The way I see it we bought into a contract with Disney for 21 days ! It’s not our fault they’ve stopped doing the 21 days ..any ideas please ?

I don't think there's anything they can do, the ticket you purchased had a use year which presumably has expired as I don't believe 21 day tickets were ever sold for this year - correct me if I'm wrong on that. But it's always been Disney's policy that unused tickets can be used as payment towards a new valid ticket, which is exactly what they're offering.

If you have 21 day tickets and they are still valid for the year you want to use them then you can still use them. However, I'm guessing you bought 2020 21-day tickets - so those tickets have now long since expired and can no longer be used. Hence you need to get new tickets.

Arguably ATD / Disney are within their rights to say that you have to pay the full amount for 2021 or 2022 tickets and that, as you haven't used the expired 2020 tickets then you've lost the money you paid for them. The fact that they allow you to swap the old expired 21 day tickets to new 14 day tickets is a 'bonus'.

Unfortunately, now if you want a full 21 consecutive days at the Disney parks then you have to buy a 14 day ticket and a 7 day ticket. They don't sell 21 day tickets. The expired 21 day ticket will cover the cost of one of those but you'll have to buy the other one. Or you can buy an Annual Pass, but they will cost even more.

The tickets were valid for this year 21 and as we are unable to travel due to borders not being open ,we have had to move to sept 22. This is what I have the problem with .

So the above is still true. 21 day tickets do not exist for 2022, they have offered you the nearest alternative.

The fact that you are unable to travel this year is not something under Disney's, nor ATD's, control. They aren't the ones stopping you from visiting. They have kindly offered to help you swap your tickets for the 2022 tickets and provided the closest alternative that is available. Note that 2022 tickets cost more than 2021 tickets and I think the 14-day 2022 tickets cost about the same as 21-day 2021 tickets. So, price-wise, it's a like-for-like replacement.

Disney or ATD does not have to offer this. They could simply say that if you can't come this year and can't use the tickets this year then they'll expire and you will need to claim on your insurance for the full loss of money you've already spent. That's partly what travel insurance is for - to claim for any losses due to not being able to travel.

(BTW, the US borders are reopening from November. So, in theory, you could start travelling to the WDW this year and could therefore use the 21-day tickets. I appreciate that you may not be able to do this in practice though)

I take it the additional cost is for the "extra" 7 days? Not really much you can do, Disney have made the decision to stop the 21 Days, I'm more than surprised that the 14 days remain TBH- whilst pretty it's also not ATD's fault as they weren't involved in the process to be fair. I'm not even sure that I'd give Disney the money for a 14 day at the minute but that might change once we all know more of the changes.
