Buy/Order your turkey early

If the media are to be believed (emphasis on if), there is going to be a turkey shortage.

It seems it’s likely to affect supplies to supermarkets rather than local farm shops and the like.

I’d ordered my turkey from a local farm before I saw this, as they sold out early last year. Depending on whether you believe the media or not, others might want to get their turkeys bought or ordered early

All my meat order done now at our local butcher, Tom Court at Burntisland - free range chicken/beef joint, haggis stuffing. wrapped sausages and gravy. Never been so organised in my life! They have a rolling contract with a local farm, so they seem confident they’ll be ok.

I’ve ordered direct from the local turkey farm, so I think I’ll be okay. I’ve not ordered anything else as our butchers haven’t started taking Christmas orders yet, though to be honest we aren’t sure about our plans yet, only that I will be cooking a turkey on either Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

We have a thriving local meat market so I think I’ll be able to get what I need. I expect any increase in demand will come nearer Christmas, if the envisaged shortages in supermarkets come to pass.

Though I’m actually veggie so it makes no difference to me (but I like happy guests)!

Or don't... it is the people who believe / follow the media hype that create the idea that there is a shortage.

Yes, there are challenges through the supply chain that have been the same for the last 18 months in getting the stock to the shelf. But it is only when people panic buy, see empty shelves / petrol stations (fill in whichever here) that creates the illusion that there is a shortage.

Last year with the toilet paper fiasco... I work with many companies that supply toilet paper to stores... there wasn't a shortage. There was just an issue getting it to the shop floor as when it came in and was put out it was straight back out again suggesting empty shelves.

So do not panic buy, there are no shortages and do not believe the media... it only makes things worse.

Any idea if this will impact Quorn roasts?

I’m choosing to ignore the rumours as the panic etc really makes the situation worse so I think I’ll just sit it out.
There’s no way I’m paying over the odds for a Turkey so if I can’t get one then we’ll have something else.
