Entirely predictable. Close the virtual queue and push the standby line up. That then becomes a method of “encouraging” people to buy individual attraction tickets.

Rise of the resistance
Apologies if i have missed this but just saw on my Instagram feed that it’s moving to a stand by instead of boarding group system? Surely good news? If you can get a fast pass for it ?

I genuinely don’t understand the negativity - this means if I’m there for rope drop I’m getting on. I may have to wait a while, but I waited for 4 hours for FoP shortly after it opened, so I’ll wait for this.
Otherwise, it’s a fingers crossed for a virtual boarding pass, no guarantee. I’m chuffed. |

When we went on we queued for 50 mins anyway. We're rope drop people and tend to stay online so at least I'm confident we'll get on

No requirement no, if you want to pay you can, otherwise you can wait in the standby for however many hours.
The change is get a virtual wait (or not), or wait in a many hour queue (or not). I’d much rather have a virtual wait then waste most of my day in a queue for RoTR, and it’s likely if the queue gets too long they will close the queue, they can’t have a 5+ hour queue still after the park closes. As I mentioned, the capacity is the same, so the same amount of people are going to be able to ride it, be standby or virtual. It only helps those that want to rope drop, if you get to the park at say 12, it’s possibly you won’t be able to join the standby queue and then miss out that way. |

FWIW they’re already inviting people to queue on standby ie there’s now spare capacity. So perhaps the formal switch to standby queues won’t be as bad as you might think. That said, I appreciate that once we’re properly in the 50th year, it may get worse.
