Hilton Garden Inn T2/3 stay - mid Sept 2021
The HGI LHR T2/3 entrance is located across the multi story car park at T2 and from the pedestrianised concourse is accessed by walking through one of the open areas between a set of lift banks. There is a walkway/tunnel between T2 and T3 which passes the entrance to the Underground and also one for the Heathrow Express. The evening before our flight we did a dummy walk over to T3 and it took 15 minutes or so perhaps 20 mins if pushing a trolley with suitcases and generally trollies are available at the hotel entrance.
Here is a description from the HGI to T3 - come out of the hotel, walk across the car park and you will come across the covered concourse at the entrance to T2. Turn left and find the lift banks that specifically say Underground/Heathrow Express as not all sets go there. On exiting the lifts you have to turn right and it is about 5 minutes walk to where the Underground entrance is. Keep going straight on and you will find some travelators here eventually going past the entrance to Heathrow Express and continue towards T3 - there is an area that divides into Arrivals and Departures for T3 and taking the departure route you will come to a set of lifts which will take you up to the outside of T3 (covered) and if travelling with Virgin glance to your left and the entrance to their check in is about 50 yards away. Rooms are compact but very clean some with views of the runway generally you pay extra for a runway view but see my tip for the room numbers which will give limited access to runway views in certain cases on most of the lower floors. The air conitioning was effective but it isn't easy to spot how to switch it on if it isn't already - it is a small square black box on the wall and along the top edge there is a very small black button which is the on/off switch. The shower wasn't the most poweful or best one ever but it worked. We ate that evening at the Apron Restaurant as both T2 and T3 only allowed access into the terminals if you were a passenger so at this point I can't comment on the availability of any places to eat inside there. The food we had was well cooked and tasty and not hugely overpriced. We did not have breakfast at the hotel as were heading to the VS Clubhouse after check-in We also had drinks at the Runway Bar at the top of the hotel which had a great view of the whole airport and an outside terrace too - prices were steep though but can recommend the Basil Gin Smash . Bear in mind there may be times when children are not allowed in the Runway Bar on an evening and suggest contacting the hotel to confirm their latest policy. Rooms offering Runway Views are generally numbered from X001 to around X014 but those on the very lowest floors may have a view of the flyover - we had 9004 and was more than happy with the view. We stayed here last November. Booked a standard room but mentioned at reception that the trip was a delayed celebration for our 25th anniversary. We were instantly upgraded to a runway view room!
