Team Bricki's Merry Mancunian Mini Break COMPLETE

Another mini trip report from us- Nicki (35) and Brett (about to turn 39), two Disney loving, cocktail drinking foodies from the North of England

Now that we have a year to go until Bretts 40th birthday bonanza, we decided to have one last little weekend break for his birthday. We chose a city that we love but havent visited since before Covid- Manchester! There is a great food and drink scene up here ranging from the independent spots in the Northern Quarter to the higher end places in Spinningfields. We have been to Manchester a few times but still have a huge list of places that we havent tried, which is good as we have booked a few theatre shows here in 2022.

We always find Manchester hotels cost nearly as much as London especially over the weekends, so we chose somewhere cheap and cheerful that we have stayed before- Ibis Styles! Its similar vibe to a Premier Inn but with funky quirky decor themed around the city each branch is located in. We are staying Sunday- Tuesday so paid the bargain price of £40 per night! It is within walking distance of the train station and all the main spots in the city

I thought we would struggle to find decent food as most places are closed post Covid on Mondays and Tuesdays but we got the places that we wanted.

Our plans are

Day One
Train over to Manchester to drop the bags off at the hotel

Lunch at American Pies

Visit the Science and Industry Museum

Disney On Ice at the Arena

Late dinner at The Blues Kitchen

Day Two
Lunch at Australasia

Bowling and Shooting at Lane 7

Cocktails at The Washhouse

Dinner at Chakalaka

Day Three
Lunch at Alchemist

Darts at Flight Club

Oh, great start.

I am far too old to have your stamina, but love reading along and I share them with my DD who lives in Leeds.

You could do a magazine column with all your pretty cocktail pictures.

Ah thank you so much, i use Instagram to blog our food and drink its become a bit of a hobby. Leeds has a great foodie scene too she is spoilt for choice

Thank you were looking forward to it- probably our last break for a while, not sure about the activities as i am awful at sports haha hope Washhouse is as good as we remember from a few years ago

Fab! I live in the leafy suburbs of Manchester and I rarely ever go even though it's a tram ride away. Looking forward to reading along have you ever been to Whistle Punks axe throwing in Manchester? It's fab

thank you we haven't been there, it was on the list of activities that Brett wanted to try on his birthday but so much is closed on Mondays, we do have a few hours to spare on the Tuesday so i might see if it's open

We love Manchester, but living in the south haven’t made it up again yet post covid! Looking forward to your restaurant reviews, that ibis looks amazing, we normally stay in a premier inn when we go up but I’ll be having a look at that for next time!

We last went Nov 2019 so really looking forward to it, will report back on ibis- it was great when we last stayed there
