I'm also thinking of booking a couple of nights at the premier Inn in Manchester. I have to travel in once a week for therapy but haven't really seen the city so could do some solo sight seeing before and after my session. If I hate it I can just come home as I normally would!

I was single and lived on my own for years, so eating in a restaurant on my own is completely normal to me. It’s never occurred to me that anyone else might even notice I am on my own! But I do tend to take a book. Although I am an old married fogey now, I still go lots of places on my own as DH works weird hours.

Also I am an only child, so doing things on my own was normal from day one and I honestly preferred it - I found it very difficult to go round town with friends as we just ended up doing what they wanted!

Well done for doing this, I’m sure it will get easier.

I love solo travel now and there’s so much good advice here on how to start small. I’m sure if you find it very anxiety inducing that’s the way to go.

However, I didn’t start super small.. I booked DLP for my first ever solo trip I figured it was relatively safe, a place I should enjoy and not a long flight. I started to want to travel solo out of necessity. I had lots of holidays and not many people I could share that with. I used to travel all the time with my husband and when we divorced I didn’t want to stop travelling.

Now, I’d travel solo as a preference. I’ll link my first solo DLP trip. I was anxious pre trip but once it arrived it was nothing but pure excitement.

Thank you everyone. I was watching a vlog and the vlogger said they had all these places they wanted to visit but no one to go with and for them it was a choice between getting to go alone or never going at all. That really made me think!

That’s exactly how I felt. I was worried that I wouldn’t have a good experience or I’d be lonely but I’ve never felt like that honestly. I love travelling and I’m glad I get to see new places or experience new things, even if I that means I go alone!

I love it - I spend the other 51 weeks of the year being wife/mum/employee. This is just time for me to do whatever I want on my own terms. I don’t have a problem being on my own, don’t mind eating on my own (nobody really notices!) and it just recharges my batteries!

If you want to PM me any questions please do so! I am happy to answer any questions you have!

Prior to all this I have done South Africa, Vietnam, Thailand and lots of Europe city breaks.
Travelling solo is great, travelling with the right partner is great, but forcing it with friends, family, partners can really spoil it

I recommend a book/kindle to occupy your hands and mind but each trip gets easier and your confidence grows massively!
I also enjoy solo cruises as there is so much to do - and you will be surprised how many people will chat to you if you are open to it!
I’ve done a few solo trip reports - all the links are in my signature below 😊
I’d say go for it!

I just wanted to thank you all for your trip reports, I have been reading them and loving them. It’s made me more determined to do a trip now on my own. Going to start exploring options and have set the target to have something booked in the next few weeks!

Well I have a solo trip booked, my sister has decided not to travel next year so the cruise I had booked has become a solo sailing! I have had a cry and feel a bit of anxiety and fear, but I’ve 10 and a bit months to get ready for it

Honestly once you’ve been a few places, you’ll wonder what you were so worried about. Even now I get a little anxious travelling but once I’m checked in at the airport and enjoying a mimosa at in the lounge it all disappears
