Pondering direct flights to Miami and driving the next day.
Can anyone recommend a hotel near the airport with transfers or in the airport (have googled!).

The drive looks reasonable, we normally fly into Tampa.
The positives are much cheaper flights, Heathrow is nearer.

Negatives - driving the next day (we’d be up early anyway so maybe this is neutral), the long drive back on the last day.

This doesn’t take into account car hire which remains exorbitant.

Cost difference at the moment is almost 2k cheaper. But will flights reduce - gah, all so much easier in 2019!

We’re doing exactly this next august.

I looked at staying close to the airport but decided to get some of the drive done that day instead.

We’ve hired a car for the day so will collect at the airport then drive to Fort Pierce for the overnight then head up to Royal Pacific early the next morning.

We don’t need a car whilst at universal and the parking costs are very high so we’ve just booked another car to collect when we leave there.

We’ve never flown into Orlando, usually into Miami and in 2019 we flew into Tampa and out of Miami.

Next year we fly into Miami and out of Tampa, we usually drive up to Deerfield Beach which is about 45 mins away from Miami airport, nice swim, dinner by the sea, wake up and drive up the coast, brunch at Vero Beach, and then the last leg to orlando. Never had any issues, and were never in a massive rush to get to Orlando. Next year we’re driving up to West Palm Beach, as it was cheaper. Have stayed in Miami by the airport but would rather get out of the city for the next day!

Thank so much - that’s a good idea to drive a little on the first night. Also mentioned to DH we should split the car rental while on site.
Did you find any reasonable car prices ?

We did a spilt booking as part of our BA fly drive.
Pick the car up from Miami, drop the next day at Hard Rock, pick up 3 days later from Hard Rock and drop at Tampa airport. Definitely not the cheapest but we paid £3028 for 2 adults & 2 teens, 17th August-5th September, those exact prices/dates are now over £6000k!

That’s a good price. Did you do that all on one booking?

I’m absolutely thinking of just paying to go to tampa and trying to forget the price !

Yes, did it on BA custom my booking about a month ago. Took some fiddling around with to get the right price but more than happy with it & £1000 cheaper than the booking we originally had with Virgin. In 2019 we flew into Tampa and out of Miami, would rather that next year but was cheaper the other way round!

Roughly the same dates as us. We’re 12 Aug - 2 Sep.

Booked flights with BA direct lhr-Mia on AA as it was cheaper though I see all the flights have now come down in line with AA.

We booked car hire with Avis through BA but separately to our flights, used a site recommended on here, I’ll find a link for you. It was still Avis and BA but a stand-alone Avis site which was cheaper than the usual Avis and BA prices. All bookings linked to our Avis account straight away.

For our dates both Mco and TPA are still crazy high.

We’re happy with Miami anyway as we’re finishing the trip with a cruise so have the day to get back down to Miami. We’ll stop for lunch somewhere on the way and maybe go shopping.
