Blocked Ears

DH has had 2 weeks if blocked ears, suction to remove wax and decongestants tried...no luck. He has tried antibiotics (Doxycyclline), Mometosone nasal spray and in desperation, hopi ear candles and still they are blocked.

He is getting so 'down' at the minute as the pressure is horrible but the GP has said they will clear in 3 - 4 weeks... not what he wanted to hear.

Any advise would be so greatly appreciated, he takes burden sometimes and has stopped all nasal sprays as he feels its better without, Hopi candles blocked his ear even worse (he has no wax in there at all).

Please help... not sure what to do now

What has the doctor said? I have trouble constantly with mine and have to have them micro suctioned. l recently had what i thought was a bad infection with AB prescribed but it turned out to be a bacterial infection (swabs taken) and an anti fungal prescribed.

Keep all water out of ears. I have specially made ear plugs from the hospital and still have to wear ear caps (mini shower caps) and seal my ears with duct tape so I don't get a drop in them(pretty much impossible though) as it starts all over again.

I have to stay away from wax removal (especially the candles).

I too have a blocked ear and constant high pitched ringing. Saw a nurse practitioner last week who gave me an ear spray which has done nothing! The ringing is constant and is getting me down. Another trip to doctors next week. I feel for your DH

Not much help I am afraid, but I had this just before Christmas, I became so down. When you say suction, is that the micro suctioning? That is what helped with me

Microsuction has been good for me too, luckily i just got over a few weeks of being unable to hear, it cleared on its own this time.

In the past ive had tinnitis for months and it really does get you down, i was so tearful all the ime and felt so isolated, even at home. It is a lonely time 🙁- hope your DH gets some help soon. X

olive oil helps loosen the wax. i had to do it daily for a week before i got fitted for my custom earplugs (they clean your ears out before they fit you, so if you're blocked up and having been oiling them, you end up being sent away and have to go back after youve done it!)

I got one of these and it done the trick at clearing the blockage and restoring my hearing,

Fill it with warm water and squirt down the ear canal with a tilted head and hopefully you should see some junk come out

Did your tinnitus just go away eventually on its own?
