I'd also be interested in this thread but for the last 3 weeks of August next year. We have always gone with package from charter but am looking at doing it myself for next year. Already booked dibb villa just flights, car or fly drive to sort now.

I originally booked flights with Delta indirect from Manchester going via Atlanta for the first 3 weeks of the hols and they were about £780. I was impatient and wanted them booked this was the cheapest flights at around the time I booked. However in October 2012 there was a low price with Orbitz, going indirect from Heathrow costing about £425 each. I had only paid £50 deposit on the others so cancelled them lost the deposit and rebooked. So even with losing the deposit it still meant i only paid about £475 a flight. Yes I have to now go from Heathrow but for that saving it is worth it!

heart sank when i started reading your post, def dont want to be paying £700+, but will be very happy with your 2nd price, hoping to get for less than £600 so £425 would be fantastic

Hi, I have a quote for £3769 for 2 adults and 2 children with United, flying from Heathrow on 03.08.14 via New York, returning home on 24.08.14. The price also includes a 7 seater mini van hire.
Also had a quote from Virgin for direct flights, same dates, again with car hire for a whopping £6598! |

I think the average price for any 2-3 week holiday in the 6 week school break has been around £750 for a number of years now. Sometimes you get lucky such as the delta glitch and can get them for £400 ish but you have to be quick. We paid £600 a couple of weeks ago with US airways for last 2 weeks of August having missed out on the delta bargain.

We booked indirect flights when there was a price drop with United in October, we paid £1900 for 4 adults tickets, 3rd August - 19th August from Heathrow to Fort Lauderdale, then return from Orlando. The same flights are now £3800. This is the 2nd year we have managed to bag August flights to USA for this price. Fingers crossed they will be around for August 2014
