Driving Orlando to Atlanta (ATL) Airport

Hi Dibbers,
Only miles seats out there for us at the moment from Manchester (for our semi flexible dates) seem to be from Atlanta.

We’ve had the OB booked since early Feb but there’s been nothing in the weeks around when we want our IB to be. Even if we shift the holiday a month later.

So, anyone done the drive. Says 6 hours... is that likely, is it easy?

We’ve done Miami to Orlando on departure day before & used to driving state side.

Ps we’ll have a 2 and 4 year old with us too!

That's a long old drive with 2 little people. Have you considered looking for a cheap internal flight?

Nearer 10-12 hours.

My brother lives in South Georgia (closer to Florida than Atlanta) & it takes him far longer than 6 hours.

Check into car hire costs across different states - that can be painful 😣

Georgia to Florida and visa versa is common and doesn't usually have cross state fees. Didn't even have a one way fee when we did an Atlanta pickup with Miami drop off. The car was on Ohio plates.

Worth checking but shouldn't be an issue.

Good to know - thanks! Same as California / Nevada then?

6.5 hours on a good run non-stop! Looks a straightforward drive down I-75 to US-27 but as I say thats non-stop on a good day... there are tolls on the way down too. With two little ones i'd suggest nearer to 8 or 9 hours with a break or two, am assuming you're looking at the direct flight which is due into Atlanta at 1515, by the time you've got through immigration and picked up a car its 5pm and your body thinks its 10pm... then a 9 hour drive?

We've driven in and out Atlanta several times in the last few years, pre Covid, and the traffic is really bad. So personally, i would think about breaking the journey somewhere

We did this in 7 1/2 hours with only one 20 min toilet stop at one of the many rest stops. A long and boring drive that was easy once we cleared Atlanta. I'm not sure I'd enjoy it with young kids. Having said that we used to go to Cornwall when ours were about the same age and about the same time on the road.
I would stay over night near the airport and get an early start.
