Dinner was at Le Cellier. Tom struggled to find a starter that he liked the sound of so eventually chose the beer cheese soup which he declared absolutely gorgeous when he tried it especially with the pretzel bread.

I chose the mussels with leek, fennel and Pernod, these came with toasted pretzel bread on top and they were also lovely.

For main course Tom had the fillet with mushroom risotto which he really enjoyed and I had the salmon which came with dauphine potatoes, tomato bacon confit and maple corn pudding, I also really enjoyed this except for the maple corn which was basically a sprinkling of popcorn over the meal and it just seemed a bit odd and added an unpleasant texture.

For dessert I had the maple creme brûlée and Tom had the chocolate maple Yukon bar and we both enjoyed these choices.

Tom voted this better than Flying Fish, but for me it was the other way round, both great meals though.

The following day got off to a disastrous start when we got to our hire car and found that it wouldn't start , it was a hybrid and needed jump starting and replacing but this took the whole morning... I hate to waste time when we're on holiday.

We made it to our lunch reservation at Chef Art Smith's Homecomin' with seconds to spare. We were so excited for this meal...

We started with thigh high chicken biscuits and fried green tomatoes these were lovely but the portions were huge and we only ate a fraction of them.

We both chose Art's famous fried chicken for main course, me with mash and Tom with fries. The chicken was really tasty but the portion size was way too big, I only ate a little bit of the fried chicken breast and the rest was wasted. The bread and butter pickles here were delicious.

I had a moonshine mash cocktail which was flavoured with watermelon and this was really refreshing.

A table that was seated behind us and not on the dining plan was advised which of the dishes were lighter and that you could do a smaller portion of the fried chicken if they wanted, I was disappointed that we weren't told this as I would rather do that and not waste food - I always get the feeling that when you are on the dining plan the servers try to up-sell the most expensive items (possibly to maximise their gratuity). It will probably be controversial as I've read so many good reviews but I wouldn't eat here again, later on in the day I felt uncomfortably full.

It’s interesting that they’ve changed the side options with the Porterhouse at Yachtsman, in the past it came with the potatoes, the spinach and the mushrooms. I do think this was preferable to just coming in the potatoes and your choice of side.

What a pity your burger at HBD didn’t live up to your memories, I really hate when that happens.

A real shame that STK disappointed, I was excited to see a review of it too as it’s not somewhere we’re likely to ever try ourselves (because of the nightclub vibe, although we might do lunch). With so much choice onsite, you’d really think the chain restaurants would up their game a little.
I was just about to say the same about the Porterhouse. I might be able to convince Marie if it comes with your choice of side though. She loves the truffle mac and cheese.

Thanks for the Le Cellier v Flying Fish comparison, seems like whichever we choose will be fine.
