smart casual on RCI, what is acceptable?

We are going on Bahamas Royal Navigator of the Seas cruise in couple of weeks and just wondering what smart casual actually means and what have your teenagers wrong?

I just came back from a RCI cruise in the Med. My teenage granddaughters changed into dresses for dinner and then back into shorts to meet up with others from the teen club. Encourage them to go to the teen club the first night to meet up with the other teens onboard.

Anything goes in our experience! The last RCCI we went on DH and I were dressed in our finery and on the next table there was a man in jeans and trainers.

Did this cruise a couple of weeks ago, yeah, any thing but beach wear seems to be ok!

I'd wear tailored (golf!) shorts and a button up shirt with converse shoes, teen daughter and wife would put on a summer dress - it's a nice to have a shower and put something slightly smarter on after day at pool / beach without going OTT - similar what we might do if at a theme park and going somewhere like Longhorns or O'hanas.

We dined in Palo on the Wonder, guy at the next table was wearing a tracksuit. I thought there was a strict dress code, obviously not.

The dress code is recommended only however they may ban shorts (depends on head waiter and the weather I think...) and definitely ban swimwear.

I wore a suit for formal nights last 3 cruises because going from southampton. This time we are going to Western Caribbean and have a trip to Boston beforehand (flight leaves in 5 hours actually so I wasn't going to lug a suit around.

Will be wearing polo shirts and white/cream chinos for dinner.
