The first time i made a Christmas cake I mistakenly thought it said feed with a tablespoon of brandy each day instead of each week. That was from the end of October until I iced it just before Christmas. It was the nicest cake ever 😁

I’ve used Delia’s recipe for years. I do tend to substitute some of the dried fruit in the recipe for a mixture of cranberries, chopped apricots and prunes (plus some crystallised ginger). I also add some chopped walnuts and almonds. Although I chop and change it, the basic recipe is the best I’ve used. Also, I bought a small plastic medicine syringe and use that to feed it with a mix of brandy and orange juice occasionally. Makes for a lovely, moist cake.

The first one was a trail run and it was really nice, very easy to make too, the second one is waiting for the marzipan and icing.

Just been out and bought all my fruit, Christmas cake 2020 I'd happening haha. Also got my Christmas treat bottle of advocaat too.. Yum.. Crikey I think this is my first Christmas purchase! Need to get sorted.

Washed out a big kilner jar so will sort it out tomorrow. Not sure whether to use just brandy or I have a bottle of chombard that has been in the cupboard for about 4 yrs. Anyone used it on fruit before? Last time I made a Christmas cake I did find it a bit bitter so maybe it was the brandy?

We have a local shop which sells loose ingredients ( a bit like the old weigh and save), which are selling all of the ingredients, nicely presented in reusable cloth bags Including recipe & Kilner jar with candied fruit glacé cherries etc in for £9.50, for standard cake mix and also doing vegan one as well
I’m planning to buy one for my daughter and I
DD is having a kitchen fitted in November- she hasn’t had an oven for the last 18 months so hopefully it will be working ok in time to make it for Christmas
