Been watching Harriet's biggest eaglet working on strenthening it's wings. It'll probably startle itself the first time it rises off the nest

Hi AM, aye, the great horned owls are a problem for the eagles. Apparently they also have a nest close by which is why some were twitchy when CROW put the eaglets back and they were left alone for 5+ hours afore Harriett found them back in the nest. A few years ago one of the owls took down a branching eaglet from behind. The eaglet was badly injured with a broken wing and it took CROW a few days to find it, luckily they did, repaired the wing and put the eaglet back in the area.

These owls have also been known to take down the adult baldies too -
is the attack on a sleeping Harriet during the night on Saturday. Thankfully bar one being knocked over the eaglets were okay.
is M15 being knocked off the outer attic yesterday with H&M giving chase after the blasted owl.

Altho this isn't H or M15, my wildlife photographer friend, Martha, caught this island baldie, who means business, chasing down some prey yesterday, 21 Feb... tremendous photo of muscle and sinew!

Harriets eaglets are panting a fair bit in the low/mid 80 temps, they need ma or pa to provide some shade for a while. They've eaten well, an opposum was brought to the nest, that has now been eaten, boy do they have big appetites

E18 has a good routine of letting E17 eat first then get its fill, no bonking from E17 then.

That pleases me, as whilst I understand it's part of nature with the eaglets, beak bonking can be brutal to watch.

Out of interest B&C, are you also monitoring Gabby and Sam's NE Fl nest? Those HD cams never fail to give me the 'aww man' factor.

Harriet and M15's eaglets are looking superb and almost all down feathers have now gone, keeping fingers crossed both survive.

The photo below was taken on Bokeelia, baldie at sunset, Randall Pier (that's my signature photo), what a beautiful photo. BTW, my pal Martha, who took the superb photo in my post 504 won a competition with that baldie, her photo was placed on the front cover...

Harriet and M15's eaglets are looking superb, especially in the sunset. Gabby and Samson's eaglet, as the only one, has grown very quickly. All looking healthy, so far, so good for a successful season

Thought some might find the photo below interesting - from eaglet to adult over a 5 year period...
