Deck 4, Disney Wonder
|
Myself, hubby, brother and sis in law get around £50 spent on us from mum (widowed) and To be honest that’s absolutely fine. We all work and don’t need stuff. I’d much rather she spend it on her only grandson, my nephew. She is always helping us out and giving us both (me and brother) bits of money which is always appreciated.
MIL gives us around the same in cash for Christmas. We are always grateful for whatever we receive. From our point of view we like to treat our niece and nephew (We don’t have children) but don’t go mad!

Excited about Disney
|
We normally give each of our children and their partners appropriately £150 each and spend £50 on presents for them to open. My 10 year old granddaughter is allocated around £150-200 but if she does not want much any money left goes into her piggy bank as spending money for Disney. PS. She still believes in Santa just like I do. 🎅🏻 🎅🏻 🎅🏻

My 5 nieces and nephews are adults now and I have 5 great nieces and nephews.
They are at the stage in life where I don’t want them to spend a lot on me, so I just give them and their partners a token present, upto about £20 each. All good quality stuff such as toiletries, skincare, candles, posh chocs. Or a gift card between a couple. They find me some lovely gifts despite having small budgets. I prefer to save the money for when they need something for a ‘life event’ such as getting engaged, buying things for a new home, having a baby etc. I probably spend about £70 each on my 5 great nieces & nephews, a few small presents to unwrap and I pay the rest into their bank accounts. |

As others have said, there’s no real right or wrong answer, it’s just about what you want to spend and how much you can afford.
I have no children, but can only go off my own experiences. What I get for my birthday and for Christmas from my mum (only parent I have) varies massively over the years. When I was at uni (about five years ago) she spent about £20/£30. For the last couple of years she’s spent around £40/£50 as she has slightly more incoming. On my elder brother she spends around £60-£80. My other brother is also around £40-£50 (same as me). The eldest gets more because he has no partner and no one else to buy him gifts, whereas me and my other brother have partners and their families too. So it just varies. |
