Shipping back from Florida to U.K. - any experience
Hello
I was wondering if anyone had had any experience of shipping things from Florida back to the U.K.? With UPS or DHL For instance a box food and sweet or even clothe? Has anyone done this before and been stung heavily with import tax and duty? Thanks |

I would suspect it would be cheaper to pay for an extra case (lot of airlines around £65 for 23kg) and bring it back with you which would be quicker, safer and also part of your allowance

We brought a painting from the Disney art shop the cost of the painting was about $175 with shipping. The tax and import duty’s and extra charges £50.

It tends to be ridiculously expensive and as suggested above, the extra case on your flight home may be the better deal.

I just shipped a 12 pound package internally by USPS. I mailed it ground and it is going 1900 miles. It would have been much easier to take home on the plane with me (have 2 bags checked free) but I could not have handled it getting from rental car to check in.
I would think overseas, if you can manage another suitcase, that would be much less expensive than mailing/shipping. and faster-my bosx will take a week . Faster would have been $65. |

Definitely cheaper to buy a case if it’s just same items. We had a room full of furniture shipped about 15 years ago now and we’re actually pleasantly surprised at how reasonable it was in comparison to a small parcel, crazy 😝

I thought about using the US postal service to ship back some small cosmetic items but after having gone to a post office, bought a small flatpack posting box and completed the necessary paperwork I was floored by the totally disproportionate cost. It was like three or four times the value of the goods and wiped out any potential saving. I ended up cramming them in my suitcase with the prospect of just ditching them at the airport if my bags were over the weight limit. Fortunately the holiday gods were on my side that day and I managed to get away with it.
So, while shipping/posting is an option I reckon that paying for an extra suitcase is way more economical (and you can then buy even more)! Edited at 01:04 AM. |

I know from personal experience that shipping home via the US post office is expensive, but you could also be caught with duty and tax when it arrives in the U.K. 🤬. Not every box is stopped and assessed, but if yours is, you are charged VAT and maybe duty (I never have been charged duty). The sting is you are charged VAT on the cost of postage 😱. Plus an admin fee by Parcelforce. Last time I had a box sent home, their fee was £8 but it’s probably gone up.
I definitely buy an extra case now ! |

Would shipping back all the holiday clothes be an idea?
Where they are all used and worn already, it should avoid customs charges? I guess there is then the weight to content with |
