We are using Hastings Smart Miles, 1.2 corsa 56 plate for DS19. Just under 1K with a black box and no restrictions.

My son is 21. He is getting a 2014 Nissan Quashqai on Wednesday. We always use comparethemarket for the best prices and it came out at just over £700 which we didn't think was too bad (4years no claims and no box). However, he then run a quote on Moneysupermatket and got insurance with Diamond for £430 so a considerable difference between the two comparison sites.
As new drivers both went with Privilege as they had insurance before they passed and they were one of the few companies that didn't increase the premium once they passed.

Another reason we went with Direct Line is they don't increase the premium when you pass so although they might cost a bit more for a learner its better in the long run.

We paid £1250 for DD17 on a new Toyota aygo with Tesco.
It does have a black box fitted and mileage is limited to 7000 per annum but she can buy more and earn more for good driving. Sadly premiums are calculated by considering not just the risk your child poses on the road but also by considering the area where you live. No win no fee has fuelled cash for crash in certain areas of the country including where we live and premiums reflect this.

My DS19 also takes his test on Friday and also has a 1.2 Corsa. He is currently insured with Collingwood on a learner only policy and pays £40 per month. We had a real shock at the astronomical increase in price when we started looking for quotes for if he passes, so it's very interesting to read the experiences on here.
Anyway good luck to both of them for Friday... and hope that passing doesn't prove too expensive!

My son passed his test last year at 17, he also drives a Corsa (I think it's a 1.1) we searched for insurance for him & eventually went with Hastings Smartmiles you have to have a black box but there are no time restrictions, although it does impact slightly on your score if you drive after 10pm & before 6am. The cost for the first year was approx £1300.
His score from the black box was 57% at renewal this year & the price has dropped to £590. We've be n really pleased with the policy Edited at 05:36 PM. |

I've got my test on Friday, I'm quite a bit older at 27. I pay £27 just now for my corsa, but dread to think what it will be if I pass!
