We are taking our son (10) for two weeks end of May/ start of June. One of the weeks is half term but because of flight time he will be off school for 7 day's. We did this last year and it was approved by the head but not approved this year as she said she couldn't do this two years running. She did agree that as his attendance is so good and the dreaded SATs will have already been done it shouldn't effect his school work at all. We will ask for him to take any work he needs to do with him.

We found it a good time to go last year but it is still very hot and humid.

We are lucky that out daughters primary school has a two week break in October and usually has an inset day on the Friday before. In 2014 we did need to ask the school for permission to take them out for two days as we flew on the Wednesday. The school were happy for us to do this on condition we took the class mascot and the girls wrote about his adventures

This year, we are taking DD out of school a week and 2 days prior to May half term, we normally do this every other year, it's a hard one but only you can decided, only you know your children

We used to go the last two weeks in August. It is bearable with A/C and swimming pool time. And the US kids have all gone back to school so not to bad crowd wise.

we're in scotland so the dates are slightly different but next year we're taking our DD out of school for 5 days (the 5 days before the tattie holidays break out)

The main reason however is because we're hoping the crowds will be that little bit smaller the 1st week there as we're going out of holidays.

This year we are doing 24 nights in August but in 2018 they will be missing 5 days so we can go in May. They are in primary. In 2014 they let us have it as exceptional circumstances I'm not sure we will be as lucky next time but having my son with autism, it usually helps sway the decision somewhat as it suits him better to go at a quieter time
