The OP was involved as while the other person made a costly error rather than admit it she blamed the OP and tried to claim the OP had fraudulently altered her emails etc. In short yes people can make a mistake but what they can't do it try to lie their way out of it and blame a "friend".

Don't think this has ended at all well. If they leave the other person in place then OP will be expected to work with her again and not have it affect her work.

I don't disagree with you but I think the OP wants to keep her job and not take this any further so she has to get over it or let it eat at her forever.
I can't say it's what I'd do but then I have never been a single parent with financial responsibility for two children.

Surely this liar needs to be taken to task? Itcant be ok to lie, make false allegations etc, and not be disciplined at the very least, regardless of your previous work. I definitely wouldn't want to be involved with such a vile person at work. Who knows what else they are capable of doing to save their backside.
