Keys and the weather
We're thinking of a week in the Keys at the end of a 2 week stay we're planning at WDW for 2022.
Our original idea was to go in June so the trip coincided with our 30th wedding anniversary, but for a couple of reasons that's looking unlikely now, one of the reasons is the increased park attendance as US schools break up. We normally visit late Aug/early Sept time, so are now considering planning the trip for this period, but this is obviously hurricane season, which doesn't really affect our Orlando time, but assume we'd be a bit more exposed down in the Keys. Anyone got thoughts and experiences being there during that time?

Theres always a chance of hurricanes in August/September and you are probably right in thinking that you would be more adversely affected in the Keys than in Orlando. Having said that, weve done the Keys twice in August in years gone by and I didnt really consider the chance of a hurricane as it was the only time we could go back then. Maybe consider booking cancellable hotels and have a back up plan should a hurricane rear its ugly head!

We went for a week down the Keys in September for our honeymoon. Weather was generally gorgeous and hot, except for 1 Sunday when it just rained and rained and rained all day long. Unfortunately that was the day we had a seaplane trip to Fort Jefferson booked for snorkeling so that got cancelled. But overall, weather was fine, and for us, the slight risk of storms was worth it since that time of the year suited us so well!

The problem with the Keys in hurricane season isn't so much that the weather is likely to be worse than Orlando but the fact they will order an early mandatory evacuation (especially for tourists) if there is a chance a hurricane is on the way. Obviously the right thing to do if a hurricane hits as there is only one road out but not something that ever happens inland in Orlando.
It is still pretty unlikely to happen during your stay though.
