Of course just to confuse things a baker’s dozen was 13 (well it was at our local bakers). We always felt we got something extra as youngsters.

The date of “D” day (decimalisation) is forever etched in my memory. 15th February 1971. At the time I worked on the Post Office counter and it was pension payment day. Can you imagine trying to explain the new money to all the old dears who thought they were being short changed and weren’t getting their proper payment. One of the worst working days I ever had! OMG Now, of course I am of the old dears myself when it comes to the digital world!

Our Headteacher came into class to teach us about new money. I was SO worried. I got 3d pocket money and I’d use it to buy a Curly Wurly. I couldn’t work out how I was going to buy one if they were going to be priced in new money and I only had a thrupenny bit. Mum couldn’t placate me at all. I waited up for Dad to come in from work and would only go to sleep once he’d reassured me that my pocket money would be in new money too.

I was doing my apprenticeship in Pompey Dockyard when they decided to go metric and issue us all with a metric toolkit.

Instead of giving us a 30cm steel rule to replace the 12 inch one they decided a 10 inch one was metric enough

Edit. And who on here remembers paying 4/11d for a gallon of Jet petrol albeit that was a promo and it was normally 5/6d a gallon.

For the younger Dibb people Jet was a chain of garages.
Jet still is a chain of garages?!
