Solo female using Uber or Lyft in Orlando
Hi...I don't even use cabs in the UK and when I'm in Orlando I always use the Lynx buses. But on Christmas Day I need to get over to Magic Kingdom from Disney Springs really early so thinking of using either Uber or Lyft.
When booking is there an option to request a female driver? Thanks

No I don’t think so, I can’t remember seeing an option on either app while across there. We have had a few female drivers while in the US but I assume they will be in the minority. I use Uber twice a week over here as a solo female and have never felt unsafe.

They can also drop you right outside MK. |

I’ve used Uber in various cities (including Hong Kong) as a solo female and have never felt unsafe. I wouldn’t hesitate using them in Orlando either.

I used Lyft in Florida with my then 18 yo DD on our trip last year and felt perfectly safe. I would also use it alone.

DH and I have never felt inclined to use Uber or Lyft. I decided to try a Minnie Van and instead we ended up with Lyft app so we used it several times. We got about 50:50 female drivers by chance. I would not use it if I were by myself though.

I’ve used Lyft as a lone female in Orlando. I’d use it for preference over a taxi as the journeys are always tracked whereas with a cab there isn’t that certainty.
I even caught one at 4am solo with no issues. You could get a Minnie Cab if you were more comfortable and were happy to pay more but personally I’d not bother. I don’t see them as any safer. They even use the same tracking as Lyft. I’ve used Lyft now on three separate Orlando holidays, other cities in Florida and other US cities without any issues at all. Short of hiring a car for the day your options are all private hire so all have a very small risk but a risk nonetheless... but I suppose with a hire car you could always get carjacked. If we all wanted 100% safety we’d never leave the house let alone the country! Edited at 02:44 PM. |
