Holidays vs other expenses. Which do you choose?
Hubby has just been moaning which he has a valid point but I’ve been moaning at the cost of a window putting in the en suite but in reality it’s the same costs as 4 days in a static caravan at the coast.
He just said which would you chose. You have £11k for Florida or a conservatory? I would pick A U.K. holiday or Florida over these things any-day. Which would you guys choose? |

I don't think its that simple as one over the other - when we moved into ours we had the cheapest holidays and did improvements. Then we had a cycle of doing expensive holidays and now we are going back to doing home improvements again as our house needs it. However I do have to say I would rather have my conservatory than another holiday in Florida.

I’d have the conservatory and a cheap break somewhere... I‘m home 50 weeks a year so I want it to be comfortable... the holiday can wait... know I’m going to be in the minority...

it is a tough one and for me a balance of home improvements and holidays. I have been to Florida 4 times in the last 2 years plus a couple of hols in Europe.
Currently doing home improvements - exterior of house, new windows in the bays, new bathroom and decorated a bedroom. If i can do both i will but probably alternate a big trip with home improvements

At this moment in time we are putting all spare cash into shares, so I put other to reflect this.
Not interested in a UK holiday, Florida is re booked for March and don’t need a conservatory, so the £11k would go into shares |

We alternated. Home improvements one or 2 years, big holiday every 3 years.
I just remember from my childhood, my parents always prioritised a new car over home improvements. We never invited friends back to ours as it was so "stuck together with carpet tape and love" (as they put it)... or rundown and shabby (as we put it). |

It's a balance, if your wi dow is falling to bits that's the priority. I would rather be comfortable in my home and not in any form of debt than have a holiday.
Memories do not need to be made on holiday, we have just had my grandchildren and their mum to stay, they have created a party in the garden, had a picnic in a homemade tent and had great water fights with two watering cans, fab time great memories. So make life a balance. |
