We are the same next summer. We are going to park the car at Heathrow as that’s where we’ll land on return and then get a taxi to Gatwick at our overnight hotel. We can’t follow bozza’s plan as it’s an hour further journey to get to Gatwick for us, so a lot longer for dh to do on his own. I got a quote for the taxi it was about £60 for a car and I think about £85 for a small minibus.

Bozza's plan avoids trekking with luggage, all others involve you trekking luggage across London. It also puts the faffing about when you're able to do it, not when you're tired and least want it on the way back.
The only step I'd add is be diligent in either recording or remembering where you parked the car. If the G&T's kick in and you forget, then none of the family will be able to help you piece it together. If they are like my family, they will not only be of no help, they will also see an opportunity to let you know you're an idiot.

When we went to New York we flew from Heathrow, then flew back from Orlando into Gatwick, we used Purple Parking via Holiday Extras and dropped the car off at Heathrow and they delivered it back to Gatwick at no extra charge.

I’m liking the G&T bit! Perhaps I should be the one dropping the car off at Heathrow - nice bit of child free time too 😂
We’re about 3-4 hours away from Gatwick depending on traffic! Edited at 01:19 AM. |

I wouldn’t want to drive after the flight back if it was more than an hour or two .
I’ve just dropped it on hubby that our revised trip will be out of Gatwick back to Heathrow (entirely my fault as I’ve added a week in Vegas to our original trip ) , his face fell until he remembered we can get a Merc people carrier with driver for £80. Mini cab for some strange reason is more. We will either use the same company to take us to Gatwick for £60 or get the train the night before and stay over at the handy Gatwick Travelodge which is actually very nice. |

Like others have said. Depends how near you are to each airport. We’re about 20 mins from Heathrow and 50 mins from Gatwick.
When we’ve been in this situation we’ve managed to get family to give us a lift to Heathrow and then hired a car from Gatwick for the return.
