Yes, we flew KLM to Amsterdam then Delta to the US a few years ago. Their flight times & are good & fare reasonable. Wish I had booked with them but you feel BA should be reliable.

Actually it'd be exactly the same if Virgin were on strike , they'd only rebook you with their partner airlines too which are Delta and KL.

BA partner with American so would rebook you with them.

When my LGW FLL was delayed earlier this month (tech not strike ) it took one very quick call to be rebooked and I was given the choice of BA or AA flights.

Non alliance is last resort and you'd be offered indirect within alliance if available before going to direct competitors.
