Little Mermaid rooms don't get the free breakfast.

I hated AOA so would definitely stick to POR. However if see how much it was to downgrade from the royal room to a normal.

We stayed at POFQ and AOA in 2017 far preferred POFQ nicer and much bigger rooms, quieter resort and we felt happier with other resort guests at POFQ. We also found AOA so big that just going to get a drink from restaurant a trek. Restaurant and pool also far better I would stay at POR and save money elsewhere

We don’t have children, have never stayed onsite and would have the dining plan. Thanks!
You would save £1000 on hotel but then you would need to purchase food as you won't get any at AoA. The QS plan provides two QS meals, two snacks and a refillable mug, value approximately $40- $50 per person per day which is more or less £1000. I would stick with POR.

I’m afraid you’ll get many different answers. Having stayed at POR ( last week) I wouldn’t return however I loved POFQ.

As Claudette says the DDP is really the key, so I’d stick to what you have

I think the OP said the £1000 saving included them paying for qsdp at AOA. I've stayed at both resorts and liked both. The Royal rooms are lovely but the Little Mermaid rooms are also nice and fun. AOA is probably busier with more children but we've never found it too loud. We mainly used the little mermaid pool as the main pool could be busy. We liked the fact that AOA still had drawing classes.

The OP has factored in paying for the QSDP at AoA and it's still over £1000 cheaper than staying at POR with the free QSDP.

OP - the Royal Rooms at POR are very expensive. You can't get free dining with a standard room at POR next year, but can with a preferred or 'view' room, so I'd have a look to see what the price reduction is for them if they become available as room availability changes all the time. Maybe also consider POFQ as standard room are included there. CSR tends to be the cheapest moderate and is very popular with couples as it has a more grown up feel and the rooms are more on the deluxe side, so maybe look at that too. Personally, as much as AoA looks great fun, I don't think I could spend 2 weeks there in a mermaid themed room. If money was the driving factor and I was going for a value resort, then I'd look at POP which has refurbished rooms that give couples a lot more space as one of the beds folds in to the wall. You also get free breakfast there that you can upgrade to the QSDP, so the cost to do that would be less than paying for it in full at AoA. The Skyliner will also link POP to HS and EP.
