It’s crazy how the prices fluctuates so much.

Thanks Tracy ,I agree about the fluctuations I have never seen flights change so dramatically and so quickly ! I will fly with anyone as long as I get there safe 🙈😁

Hi - when we did a similar trip last year we stayed at the Westin in NOLA (great views over the Mississippi) which in August was cheap ($150 a night) but suspect more outside the 'quiet' period of high summer. As mentioned you don't need a car in NOLA so plan on either picking one up the day you leave or dropping off when you arrive. We actually picked a car up the day before we left (from Avis on Canal St) and drove out to do a plantation tour and a swamp tour - cost about $30 to park it overnight in the car park attached to the Westin - still worked out a lot cheaper than buying tours.

In Memphis we stayed at the Hampton Inn. Excellent location and parking right next to it. We never heard much noise at all from our rooms but obviously depends on which you get (tip: if you book via the Hilton app then you can check in 24 hours ahead and choose your rooms so possible to try and avoid noisy ones).

Nashville we also stayed out near Opryland where hotels are a lot cheaper. We also wanted to be close to the mall and to the Grand Ole Opry. It's easy to get to Nashville - If you plan on drinking then uber or as mentioned there are shuttle buses. If driving then you can park for free in Lot R of the Nissan Stadium (on non-event days) and it's then 5 minute walk over the pedestrian bridge to the downtown.

I second staying near Opryland. We’ve stayed here a couple of times during road trips and it’s much cheaper than downtown Nashville. Just use Uber if you want to drink. Although, last time we stayed in a best western near opryland and there were a few bars/restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

I know you're all zipping through Atlanta, but I just wanted to add that I've spent quite a bit of time in Georgia as my brother lives there, my absolute favourites place there is a little Alpine Village called Helen, it's really gorgeous and very close to a place where you can go River Tubing which is one of my all time favour US memories.

Just thought I'd throw that in incase anyone had spare time in Georgia and wanted suggestions.

Stayed at the Wyndham in Nola, fab location in the heart of the french quarter, fab location and able to walk everywhere. Stayed at the Clarion in Nashville, just over the bridge from Broadway but hotel did provide a free shuttle bus. Stayed at the Guesthouse at Graceland in Memphis, unbelieveable even if you're not a huge elvis fan like me. Loved being right next door to the mansion and again a shuttle bus provided to Beale Street. All hotels were good standard, the Guesthouse was a notch higher though.

These are all fab recommendations thank you. I’ve made a list of each one to look into when it’s time to book.

Thank you for this, I’ve noted it down for our holiday next year. Staying 2 nights in Atlanta mainly for the Walking Dead tour but will try and schedule some time in Helen as it sounds just the kind of thing we like as a family

Even better it’s on the way from the Smoky Mountains to Atlanta so works out perfectly!

We're stopping at The Hampton Inn Beale Street in Memphis, and we've booked an airbnb in Nashville.

I'll let you know if they're recommended once we've been!
