St Augustine or Fortlauderdale?
We’re hoping to have a night or two at a beach resort but not sure which. It’ll be me, my husband and an 18 & 20 year old. I like the thought of st Augustine as we all kind of like history, but my husband loves boats and so I thought Fort Lauderdale?
We’re not sit on beach type people but like thinks such as inflatable assault courses in the sea, or banana boat rides, fly-boarding etc so ideally wherever we go has something like this to do but this info isn’t easily available. Can anyone say which of the two resorts would be more suitable or suggest any alternatives? |

We've been to both for a few days each and I much preferred St Augustine. We also don't like to sit on a beach so St Augustine was perfect as there is so much to see and do that we only scratched the surface in a couple of days. As you say, it's full of history and felt so different from the Orlando area and I would go back in a heartbeat to see some more.
I felt Fort Lauderdale was a little underwhelming, although we did visit just a couple of weeks after hurricane Irma. There really wasn't much to do and I wouldn't bother going back. Debra

Fort Lauderdale is nice but very 'beachy', whereas St Augustine has a beach but so much more with the historical town centre, and also a number of pretty little towns and marinas on the coastal road up there if you venture off the freeway.

We went to St Augustine last year - amazing place and so much to see and do. Can't even begin to describe the history and atmosphere of the place.
Our trip report days are here of it helps. one day here the next is a click here too hope it helps as we had previously booked Clearwater for a couple of nights then found this place thanks to Dale Winton's Tv programme. Stunning place and so much better than Fort Lauderdale and in our case was even more memorable than Miami
