Once Upon A Dream - Our Disneymoon May 2019 - DAY 2
Tuesday 7th May
I was so tired last night that I couldn't imagine anything other than sleeping like a log the whole night through - yet inevitably here I am, wide awake at 10 past 4 in the morning! I spend a few minutes writing up yesterday's notes, then check the weather for our morning at Magic Kingdom. (Spoiler alert: sunny and hot!) I'm starting to feel hungry and looking forward to breakfast already too! I manage to get back to sleep for a while, but we are both still up and awake and ready to go by 7 a.m. We walk over to the food court and I take a moment just to take in our surroundings. I had forgotten how much I love Florida mornings - the warmth and stillness of everything. I have the bounty platter for breakfast - might as well go all out for day 1, right?! We don't have to wait too long for a bus and soon we are on our way to the Magic Kingdom. It still feels so surreal and I can't really believe we are actually here... It's wonderful to arrive and lots of memories come flooding back for me as we step through the gates and into the park. Getting that first glimpse of the castle is just magic. We grab a spot near the castle and wait for the welcome show to start. It's completely charming and I admit to shedding a tear seeing all the characters coming out. When the park opens, we set off on our "purposeful striding" and head straight to Peter Pan. We still end up having to wait about 25 minutes but it's a lovely attraction to start with to get into the Disney mood. Then we do It's A Small World (of course!) and DH is bemused and a bit perplexed by it, but I think enjoys it in a strange way?! We had FPs for Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain & Space Mountain but unfortunately Splash is down for most of the day so we swap the FP for Haunted Mansion. While at Splash talking to the cast member about swapping the FP, we encounter an angry American man describing it as being "in a hostage situation"... because he didn't want to go on anything other than Splash, and felt he was being kept against his will waiting for it to re-open... Yeah, all right then. We also ride Dumbo at my DH's request! We are feeling pretty overwhelmed by the heat as we aren't really acclimatised to it yet, and find ourselves drinking water endlessly. We also grab a LeFou's Brew for 1 snack credit each from Gaston's Tavern, which we really enjoy. So refreshing! I start to realise just what a busy, overwhelming place Disney can be and how easy it could be to get swept up in the need to rush around, and it's then I decide that we just need to go with the flow and listen to our bodies. If we miss rides, so be it. We see a lot of stressed looking people and don't want to get like that. Part of the reason we wanted to stay on site was the ease of getting between the resort and parks, so in the early afternoon we get a bus back to the hotel for a chilled out afternoon by the pool. (Not before a purchase of some Minnie Mouse ears for me... costing $27) At the hotel, we fill our refillable mugs, grab a cupcake as a snack (which ends up going back into the room fridge!) and head to the pool. We also make a lovely discovery of balloons and a congratulations card which have been put in our room for us. After a few much needed relaxing hours, we get showered and head out on the water taxi to Disney Springs. It's a lovely ride along the river as always. We grab dinner at D-Luxe Burger, which is just OK. Nothing that special... I am also now starting to feel extremely tired and starting to get a headache, just from all the busyness, travel and heat. We don't stay too long in Disney Springs and decide to head back to the hotel quite early to get some rest. We have a beautful boat ride back, enjoying soaking up the warm evening air, and are back in our room by 9pm with drinks from the food court. We both really feel the time difference in the evening and pretty much go straight to sleep! But a successful first day I think... Edited at 03:31 PM. |

Love seeing the castle for the first time. Shame about splash. We are planning some down time in the afternoons. Always struggle to stay up those first few days. Look forward to more.
